Statements made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson (Paris, May 9, 2014)

Visit by Mr. Laurent Fabius to the United States (May 11 to 13, 2014)

Mr. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, will visit Chicago and then Washington from May 11 to 13.

In Chicago, the minister’s visit will focus on the promotion of France’s attractiveness, the expertise of its entrepreneurs in the United States and French culture. He will attend the French Innovation Week and will meet with the French business community as well as American business leaders. He will also visit the University of Chicago.

In Washington, the minister’s meeting with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will provide an opportunity for an exchange of views on all international issues.

The minister will also meet actors from the tourism industry, and the American media. He will announce the launch of the “Transatlantic Friendship and Mobility Initiative” aimed at increasing the mobility of students, researchers and research professors between France and the United States.

He will also attend the annual conference of the American Jewish Committee, during which he will reaffirm France’s determination to fight against all forms of anti-Semitism and to contribute to the establishment of peace, security and stability in the Middle East.

Lastly, the minister will deliver a speech at the Brookings Institution on the topic of “France in an Age of Geopolitical Upheaval.”
