France welcomes the considerable progress made in Brussels yesterday by Serbia and Kosovo within the framework of the political dialogue that they are conducting under the facilitation of the EU.

This progress will enable each of the parties to continue the process of European rapprochement. It reflects their determination to make progress and the particular importance of the role of the EU and its institutions in this part of the world.

South Sudan – Murder of two Doctors Without Borders humanitarian workers

France condemns the murder of two Doctors Without Borders employees in South Sudan and extends its condolences to the victims’ families.

Full light must be shed on this heinous crime, the perpetrators of which must be held accountable.

In a context marked by an ever-deteriorating humanitarian situation in the country, it is unacceptable that humanitarian workers continue to be targeted by deliberate attacks and that their work continues to be hampered.

France reaffirms its attachment to the respect for international humanitarian law as well as to the work of humanitarian actors and their protection under all circumstances

Libya – Meeting between Laurent Fabius and UN special representative Bernardino Leon (Paris, August 26)

This morning Laurent Fabius received Bernardino Leon, the UN secretary-general’s special representative for Libya. Mr. Fabius reiterated his support for current efforts to form a national unity government in Libya.

During their conversation, they reviewed the troubling developments in the security situation. A political resolution of the crisis is both urgent and necessary.

Once again, Mr. Fabius and Mr. Leon urged all the parties to resume their dialogue in a spirit of consensus, in the overriding interest of the Libyan people.
