Iran / Climate – Meeting between Laurent Fabius and Massoumeh Ebtekar, Vice President of Iran with responsibility for the environment (Paris - January 27, 2016)

Laurent Fabius, COP21 President, will today receive Massoumeh Ebtekar, Vice President of Iran with responsibility for the environment, in order to prepare for the implementation of the Paris climate agreement.

During the meeting, he will discuss the signing ceremony due to take place in New York on April 22, 2015, and the ratification process necessary for the entry into force of this agreement.

They will also work on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of combating climate disruption.



Human rights / Fight against terrorism – Harlem Désir's visit to the Council of Europe (January 27, 2016)

Harlem Désir, Minister of State for European Affairs, will visit Strasbourg today in order to participate in the debate organized by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on the fight against terrorism and respect for the rule of law.

During this visit, he will meet with Thorbjorn Jagland, Secretary-General of the Council of Europe, and Nils Muiznieks, Commissioner for Human Rights.

He will present to them the measures initiated by the French government aimed at providing an effective response to the terrorist threat while respecting democratic values, fundamental freedoms and human rights.



Cultural diplomacy – "Nuit des Idées" ("Night of Ideas") at the Quai d'Orsay (Paris - January 27, 2016)

At Laurent Fabius's initiative, the Institut français will offer an unparalleled experience at the Quai d'Orsay this evening: the "Nuit des Idées." Intellectuals, artists and architects will take the floor from 6:00pm to 2:00am in order to imagine the world of tomorrow. Entertainment, a temporary bookstore and readings will combine to make this an exceptional event aimed at exchanging ideas in a convivial atmosphere.

The "Nuit des Idées" event, which will be open to all by reservation only and subject to availability, will touch on issues that are key to contemporary discussions. Borders, citizenship, diversity, health, resources, and spirituality are all issues that will be discussed among leading French and international personalities: Stephen Breyer, Pierre Rosanvallon, Bruno Latour, Rem Khoolaas, Saskia Sassen, Laurence Tubiana. Numerous writers and philosophers from the new literary and intellectual scene will also read from their works.

Laurent Fabius thereby wanted to offer a stage for the international circulation of ideas to which France is attached.
