Council of Europe – Visit by the Venice Commission to Paris (March 4, 2016)

A delegation from the Venice Commission, the Council of Europe's advisory body on constitutional matters, is conducting a visit to Paris today.

This visit will provide an opportunity to discuss with the French authorities—including the chairman of the National Assembly's Law Committee, as well as the Council of State and the Constitutional Council—the draft constitutional amendments relating to the state of emergency.

As Jean-Marc Ayrault reaffirmed on February 29 to the Human Rights Council, France will be extremely careful to balance the security of its citizens with the preservation of public freedoms, to which it is deeply attached. It maintains an open and constructive dialogue with the relevant international forums.
