Appointment of Christine Lagarde to the post of Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund – Statement by Alain Juppé, Ministre d’Etat, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs
Paris, June 28, 2011

I am deeply satisfied to learn of the appointment of Christine Lagarde as Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund.

This decision acknowledges an extraordinary woman, a true professional who is internationally recognized, and a committed and universally respected French economy and finance minister.

In this new world that is emerging before us, the task and new responsibilities awaiting her are enormous. No one can doubt that Christine Lagarde will be able to take up the challenges now facing the entire international community in the financial and monetary fields.

As head of the IMF, Christine Lagarde will always have the support of France, who is pleased about and proud of her success. I extend to her, with friendship, my warmest congratulations and full support./.
