Central African Republic
Paris, July 24, 2014
I welcome the signature in Brazzaville of the cessation of hostilities agreement. I pay tribute to President Samba-Panza’s determination and President Denis Sassou Nguesso’s action, with all the region’s leaders, the African Union and the UN.
The Brazzaville Forum’s participants made a commitment to reject violence, to enable the Central African Republic to make a fresh start. This commitment must be upheld.
The Central African people’s expectations must now be satisfied, with due regard for what has been undertaken and by implementing the disarmament process. In addition to this, all the stakeholders must pursue the political dialogue and ensure the success of the transition which must lead to elections./.
