The President had a meeting today with Arnold Schwarzenegger, former governor of California and founder of R20, a network of regions committed to the major issues affecting the climate, which is organizing a [World] Summit of Regions for Climate at the Economic, Social and Environmental Council from 9 to 11 October.
He welcomed the commitment of a world-famous figure to environmental and climate protection, and stressed the importance of mobilizing civil society actors and local authorities in particular to make the 21st international climate conference (COP21), to be held at Le Bourget from 30 November to 11 December , a success.
He recalled that France wants to promote, in the run-up to this, an “agenda of solutions”, which shows the compatability between economic and social development and the fight against global warming.
Like Nicolas Hulot, Special Envoy for the Protection of the Planet, the President has called for all key figures eager to invest in the success of the 2015 Paris Climate Conference, following Arnold Schwarzenegger’s example, to form a group of intermediaries and spokespeople who can raise awareness among the general public and galvanize them, and decision-makers, worldwide on this key challenge./.
