Situation in Burkina Faso

France continues to follow the situation in Burkina Faso very closely and salutes the courage of the Burkinabe people as they mobilize their efforts on behalf of democracy. It welcomes the efforts of the joint mission conducted by ECOWAS, the African Union and the United Nations.
France urges all the actors to continue their consultations with a view to the swift implementation of a solution that is in compliance with Burkina Faso’s constitutional framework. To that end, a civilian interim head of state must be appointed very quickly to lead the country toward new elections.

France welcomes the resignation of the President of Burkina Faso, which enables a solution to be found to the crisis.
The French President expresses his solidarity with the victims of the recent days’ violence and appeals to all those involved to show calm and restraint.
France reiterates its commitment to the constitution and therefore to the swift organization of democratic elections./.
