Climate disruption/IPCC’s fifth report
Paris, November 2, 2014
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change [IPCC] has adopted its Fifth Assessment Report. We commend this piece of international, multidisciplinary, high-calibre scientific work.
The report’s message is clear. Climate disruption, caused by human activity, is indisputable. Its initial impact is being felt all over the world, and the current path would lead to a temperature rise well above the acceptable 2ºC. It is a serious threat to biodiversity, food security and the health of our fellow citizens. But solutions exist.
Universal and immediate mobilization is necessary. The Paris agreement in 2015 will have to provide a political response commensurate with the scientists’ findings. The next stages – the Lima conference in December, then the presentation of national greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets at the beginning of 2015 – will be decisive.
Dr Pachauri will present this Fifth Assessment Report by the IPCC to us in Paris on Wednesday 5 November./.
