Murder of Peter Kassig/Fight against terrorism
Nouméa, November 16, 2014
The group Daesh [ISIL] in Syria – the same one we’re combating in Iraq – has just claimed responsibility for the murder of an American, Peter Kassig, 26, a young humanitarian worker who had dedicated himself to that country since 2013. The terrorist group also cravenly murdered 18 Syrians in cold blood.
These are crimes against humanity, they are barbarous acts, and this is why France cannot remain indifferent: firstly because it feels solidarity – we too have had a hostage murdered in Algeria – but also because the terrorist group Daesh wants to conquer territories and subjugate a population.
This is why I recall here that France is in a coalition and is making sure to attack the terrorist group Daesh in Iraq and enable the Iraqi authorities to regain sovereignty over their territory. We shall continue this battle. This battle is for humanity in the face of barbarians who commit crimes against humanity.
My thoughts are with all these victims, with this young American and also with the Syrian people, who for too many months have been suffering horrors from which they must be set free.
