Climate disruption – Action by the state of California

Action by the state of California to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the run-up to COP21 - Statement by Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development and President of COP21

I welcome the presentation by the state of California of an ambitious goal to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 40% compared with their 1990 levels by 2030. This is an important announcement, given California’s weight in the global economy and its share of global greenhouse gas emissions.

This announcement confirms California’s commitment to the fight against climate disruption. It is also a strong signal of the commitment of subnational authorities to ensuring the success of COP21.

I hope that many regions and cities around the world will follow this example.
