Communiqué issued by the Presidency of the Republic
Riyadh, May 4, 2015

(…)

Regarding Syria, both parties expressed their deep concern about the deterioration of the situation and the development of the terrorist threat. They confirmed the importance of the Geneva I communiqué being implemented in order to ensure a political transition in Syria, the only way of ending the conflict in the country.

They confirmed that Bashar al-Assad could play no role in Syria’s future or in combating terrorism. They reiterated their support for the Syrian National Coalition and welcomed the proposal to bring together all factions of the Syrian opposition in Riyadh at the appropriate time, on the basis of a shared effort by both parties.
