Communiqué issued by the Presidency of the Republic
Paris, June 30, 2015

The French President had a meeting with Michael Bloomberg, former mayor of New York and the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Cities and Climate Change since January 2014.

He thanked him for the major cities’ dynamic mobilization for COP21, led jointly with Mme Anne Hidalgo, Mayor of Paris, who on 4 December 2015 will be hosting the summit of 1,000 mayors engaged in fighting global warming.

The President said he hoped that the initiatives by cities and regions and their networks would lead to a common platform of action and develop more partnerships with the territories in developing countries which need them most to complete their energy transition.

Finally, he asked for Mr Bloomberg’s support in improving and organizing local authorities’ access to climate finance through innovative methods, in conjunction with the international financial institutions.

Mr Bloomberg assured the President of his full commitment to the success of the major climate conference at Paris-Le Bourget this December./.
