2016 "Films on the Green" festival (NYC, June 7-Sept. 8)

Published on June 7, 2016
"Films on the Green" is a free outdoor French film festival produced since 2008 in New York City parks by the French Embassy, FACE Foundation and the NYC Parks.

The Embassy of France in the United States, the FACE (French American Cultural Exchange) Foundation and the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation will launch the 9th edition of the Films on the Green festival on June 7. Ten French films will therefore be presented free of charge on outdoor screens in New York parks. The 2016 festival, which will have the theme “A Summer in Paris,” will offer a striking portrait of the French capital, its urban landscape and its cultural diversity through a selection of classic, New Wave, and contemporary French films.

This festival is part of Tandem Paris-New York, a cultural exchange program running from June to October that highlights such disciplines as music, dance, film, literature, theater, and the visual arts, along with food and cultural innovation. Tandem Paris-New York is supported by the Institut Français and the two municipalities, in partnership with the French Embassy in the United States and the American Embassy in France.

The festival begins on June 7 with a screening in Central Park of Jean-Luc Godard’s Breathless, starring Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg – a perfect bridge between Paris and New York. It will be followed by Yves Robert’s The Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe (June 10), Luc Besson’s Subway (June 24), François Truffaut’s The 400 Blows (July 1) and Agnès Varda’s Cléo from 5 to 7 (July 22).
