Paris, August 18, 2015

The French President had a meeting in Paris today with his Beninese counterpart, Mr Thomas Boni Yayi.

They talked about the fight against the Boko Haram terrorist sect and agreed to maintain the efforts being made, until the threat posed by that group disappears. The Head of State congratulated Mr Boni Yayi for his country’s commitment and the recent decision to mobilize a Beninese battalion to add to the efforts of Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Nigeria. François Hollande confirmed that France will continue its support for the various states engaged in this fight, in accordance with the decisions taken at the summit organized in Paris in May 2014.

Finally, the French President set out to the Beninese President the progress made on preparations for the United Nations Climate Conference, which will be held in Paris at the end of 2015. He thanked Benin for the support it provided for the principle of an ambitious, universal, legally binding agreement. He also reiterated his wish for Benin to be supported in its sustainable development strategy, as was announced in Cotonou during François Hollande’s state visit (2 and 3 July 2015)./.
