Romania/ Meeting between Bernard Kouchner and Mevlut Cavusoglu, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe

Bernard Kouchner, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs received Mevlut Cavusoglu, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and Turkish Member of Parliament, on Tuesday, September 28.

The meeting focused mainly on the situation of the Roma in Europe and how to resolve it. Bernard Kouchner and Mevlut Cavusoglu underlined the importance of the ministerial meeting that will take place in October in Strasbourg on this issue which the Secretary General of the Council of Europe had announced during his visit to Paris on September 17. This meeting will provide the opportunity to launch a process aimed at implementing policies to ensure the long-term social and economic integration of the Roma populations in their countries of origin. This initiative, which will be subject to oversight, will be coordinated by the European Union.

During the meeting, Bernard Kouchner and Mevlut Cavusoglu also addressed the political situation in the Balkans.

The President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe also met with Pierre Lellouche, Minister of State responsible for European Affairs, during a lunch with the French delegations to the APCE (French agency for business creation).
