WTO – Process of selecting the new director-general


On March 5,  Mr. Pierre Sellal, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, received Mr. Herminio Blanco, former Minister of Trade of Mexico and candidate for the post of director-general of the World Trade Organization.

On February 5, Mr. Sellal had received Mr. Roberto Azevedo, Ambassador of Brazil to the WTO, and Ms. Mari Pangestu, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia, both candidates to replace Mr. Pascal Lamy.

Following the close of nominations on December 31, 9 candidates are in the running to replace Mr. Lamy, who served two consecutive terms at the head of the WTO. The member states must choose the new director-general - who will take office on September 1 - by May 31.


Mexico – Murder of journalist Jaime Guadalupe Gonzalez Dominguez


France utterly condemns the murder of journalist Jaime Guadalupe Gonzalez Dominguez, director of the news portal “Ojinaga Noticias,” on Sunday in the state of Chihuahua, in the north of Mexico.

We extend our condolences to his loved ones.

France supports the efforts of the Mexican authorities to shed full light on this murder and to ensure that the perpetrators are identified and prosecuted.  It reaffirms its attachment to the freedom of the press and commends the courage of journalists, who risk their lives every day all over the world to fulfill the duty to provide information.
