Lebanon – Payment of a contribution of €1.5 million to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon

France has paid a contribution of €1.5 million to the budget of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon for 2013. This brings the total amount of financial support provided by France since the tribunal was created to more than €7 million.

France reaffirms its support for the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, which acts entirely independently to promote justice and combat impunity. It calls on all parties to respect its mandate, as specified by UNSCR 1757.

In the interests of Lebanon and the entire region, this tribunal must be able to continue working independently and in an atmosphere of calm.  France encourages the countries that support its action to also contribute to the funding of this court. We also encourage Lebanon, whose cooperation with this tribunal is vital, to pay its contribution.
