Syria – Destruction of the minaret of the Umayyad Mosque in Aleppo
France utterly condemns the bombing that caused damage to the Umayyad Mosque in Aleppo, including the collapse of its minaret.
This mosque - one of the most beautiful in the Muslim world - is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
This event reflects the escalation of violence in Syria. We strongly condemn the regime’s continued indiscriminate bombing in Aleppo as well as in the rest of the country.
The regime must be held accountable for the suffering inflicted on the Syrian people and the loss of human life, as well as for the destruction of these historical and cultural treasures.
