Syria – Massacre of 60 Shiites in the village of Hatlah

We’re deeply concerned by reports of a sectarian massacre of 60 Shiites in the village of Hatlah, in the province of Deir al-Zour.

We condemn all violence against civilians, as well as the hate speeches that encourage it and accompany it.

France does not want to see any of the crimes committed in Syria go unpunished. The perpetrators must be held accountable for their actions before the International Criminal Court.

Lebanon – Syrian bombing

France strongly condemns the bombing that targeted the Lebanese town of Aarsal yesterday, which constitutes a violation of Lebanon’s integrity and sovereignty. Any act of provocation or threat to civil peace in Lebanon, regardless of the perpetrator, is unacceptable.

France expresses its solidarity with Lebanon. It would like to reaffirm its full support for Lebanon’s institutions and their guarantor, President Suleiman. We reaffirm our support for the policy of disassociation and the commitments undertaken in the Baabda Declaration, on President Suleiman’s initiative.

We also commend the role of the Lebanese armed forces, who are courageously continuing their mission on the ground in order maintain and restore calm.
