Israel – Approval of the construction of 69 new homes in the settlement of Har Homa

France condemns the authorization granted by the Israeli municipality of Jerusalem of building permits for 69 new homes in the settlement of Har Homa.

This decision is illegal under international law; it undermines trust and jeopardizes the prospect of finding a just and lasting solution to the conflict.

France fully supports the efforts aimed at relaunching the negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians and again urges the parties to avoid any gesture likely to jeopardize these efforts. It would like these negotiations to resume as swiftly as possible, without any preconditions and on a credible basis.

Forum for political dialogue between France and South Africa (June 26, 2013)

On Wednesday, June 26, Mr. Pierre Sellal, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, received his South African counterpart, Mr. Jerry Matjila, Director-General of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa.

This exchange was preceded by a dialogue, on June 25 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the protection and promotion of human rights around the world.

The discussions notably focused on developments in the strategic partnership between France and South Africa, regional issues, the resolution of crises in Africa and cooperation in the Indian Ocean, as well global issues. They also provided an opportunity to review progress on the “Reciprocal Seasons” 2012-2013.

The meetings also provided an opportunity to address the economic challenges of the strategic partnership in the areas of energy and transport, scientific and technological cooperation, as well as the updating of the Partnership Framework Document on development.

This forum for political dialogue is held every year, with the location alternating between France and South Africa; it helps to strengthen our close bilateral relations and ensure the effective coordination of French and South African diplomacy on the international scene.
