Meeting between Mr. Thierry Repentin and Ms. Connie Hedegaard, European Commissioner for Climate Action (January 29, 2014)

Mr. Thierry Repentin, Minister Delegate for European Affairs, will meet today with Ms. Connie Hedegaard, European Commissioner for Climate Action.

They will discuss the EU 2030 Climate and Energy Framework on the basis of proposals submitted by the Commission on January 22, which should provide a very good basis for our work.

France would like the EU to be able to define new climate commitments for itself, in preparation for the UN International Conference on Climate Change (COP21) to be held in Paris in 2015, which should lead to a universal and ambitious agreement on reducing CO2 emissions. President Hollande therefore declared that he was in favor of setting an emissions reduction target of 40% by 2030.

China – Sentencing of Xu Zhiyong and two activists from the New Citizens Movement

We’re concerned by the sentencing of Xu Zhiyong on January 26 to 4 years in prison as well as the sentences handed down to two activists from the New Citizens Movement, Yuan Dong and Hou Xin.

We reaffirm our attachment to the development of the rule of law in China and the continuation of reforms in this direction.

France is attached to the protection of human rights, of which the freedom of opinion and expression are key elements, in China as in the rest of the world.
