Israel – Settlement activity

With respect to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the parties must refrain from any gesture that could constitute an obstacle to a just peace based on the two-state solution.

With this in mind, France condemns the decision to issue permits for the construction of 186 homes in the Israeli settlements of Har Homa and Pisgat Zeev, in East Jerusalem.

Settlement activity is illegal under international law and undermines the trust required for the negotiations under way to succeed.

Vietnam – Sentencing of Pham Viet Dao (March 19, 2014)

France deplores the sentencing of Vietnamese blogger Pham Viet Dao on March 19 to fifteen months in prison.

We reaffirm our attachment to the freedom of expression and opinion, including on the Internet, in accordance with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

These rights and freedoms are guaranteed by the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which Vietnam, a member of the UN Human Rights Council, is party. France calls on the Vietnamese authorities to ensure compliance with it.
