Cuba – Visit by Mr. Laurent Fabius (April 12, 2014)

Mr. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, will conduct an official visit to Cuba on April 12.

This trip will be the first visit by a French minister of foreign affairs to this country in more than 30 years. On this occasion, Mr. Laurent Fabius will notably meet with his Cuban counterpart, Mr. Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla.

Latin America is one of the priorities of French foreign policy. France intends to strengthen its ties with all countries in this region, in all their diversity. In this context, it would like to establish a constructive relationship with Cuba in all areas.

Mr. Laurent Fabius will open a branch of the UBIFRANCE agency, whose role will be to lend support to French companies entering the Cuban market.

This visit will take place just as negotiations for a Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between the EU and Cuba are about to get under way.

Afghanistan – Attack against journalists (April 4, 2014)

We were shocked to learn that two journalists were targeted by an attack today in Khost. One of them reportedly died instantly and the other was reportedly seriously injured.

We assure their families of our solidarity.

France reaffirms its support for the journalists who work, with courage and determination, to promote the freedom of information in Afghanistan. It is mobilized, notably within the United Nations, to ensure that the safety of journalists is guaranteed everywhere.

On the eve of a crucial deadline – the first round of the presidential elections –, France stands alongside the Afghan institutions and people.
