Germany – Visit to Berlin by Mr. Harlem Désir, Minister of State for European Affairs (April 10, 2014)

The new minister of state for European affairs, Mr. Harlem Désir, visited Berlin today. Mr. Désir met his German counterpart, Mr. Michael Roth, with whom he will jointly serve as secretary-general for French-German cooperation.

Choosing to conduct this first visit to Germany underscores the contribution of the French-German friendship to the European project, as well as the exceptional nature of the ties between our two countries.

During this meeting, the two ministers of state discussed the main European issues, notably the challenges posed by growth and employment. The two ministers of state discussed the situation in Ukraine and the EU’s relationship with Russia.


European Union – Foreign Affairs Council (Luxembourg, April14, 2014)

The Foreign Affairs Council meeting will take place on April 14 in Luxembourg, under the chairmanship of Ms. Catherine Ashton. The following issues will be discussed in particular:

- Ukraine/Russia: the ministers will discuss the situation on the ground and its consequences for the EU’s relations with Ukraine and Russia.

- Syria: the ministers will discuss the status of the political process following the failure of the second round of negotiations in Geneva and the possibility of a third round of negotiations. They will also discuss chemical disarmament in Syria. They will review the humanitarian issues. Conclusions will be adopted.
