United States – Death of Jim Oberstar, co-founder of the Congressional French Caucus

France was saddened to learn of the death of former Congressman Jim Oberstar, who represented Minnesota in the House of Representatives and co-founded the French-American friendship group in Congress (the Congressional French Caucus).

He was a Commander of the National Order of Merit, a true connoisseur of our culture and always worked actively to promote the friendship between our two countries.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and pay tribute to the memory of this friend of France.

The Congressional French Caucus, which was created in 2003, has about 100 members. It plays a key role in French-American relations.

Cultural network update – International Book and Arts Fair (Tangier, May 7 to 11, 2014)

The Tangier International Book and Arts Fair, which opens tomorrow, is one of the highlights of the 2014 France-Morocco Cultural Season. The Tangier International Fair, launched in 1996, is a forum for debate and exchanges of views between writers and thinkers from both sides of the Mediterranean. It is devoted to a different theme each year and includes round tables, conferences and debates. This 18th edition is devoted to the “Africas” and, for five days, will provide an opportunity for people to exchange views on the diversity of this multifaceted continent.

The fair, which embraces all forms of expression, will also include a wide variety of programs in the areas of theater, music, fine arts and film. It will be complemented by an educational campaign in several schools, aimed at promoting books and reading.

The program is available in full on the website of the Institut français du Maroc: http://if-maroc.org/tanger/
