Commemoration of the Normandy landings – Initiatives within the diplomatic network

On the occasion of the commemoration of the Normandy landings, a number of initiatives are being taken within our diplomatic network in order to express France’s gratitude to the allied nations for the sacrifices they made in 1944.

The Embassy of France in Ottawa has therefore arranged for a giant image expressing France’s gratitude to the Canadian people to be projected onto the Federal Parliament Buildings every evening from 9:00 pm to 12:00 am from June 3 to 9. France is expressing its gratitude through this building which embodies the home of the people’s elected representatives, a forum for debate for all Canadian provinces and a symbolic building, the guarantor of freedom and Canadian democracy.

At the same time, from June 4 to 30, period photos of Canadian veterans taken in France in 1944 will be displayed on the embassy’s gates.

Lastly, many French people in Canada have added their signatures to an electronic card entitled, “Thank you Canada! France will never forget!”
