Afghanistan – Second round of the presidential elections (June 14, 2014)

France commends the determination of the Afghan people who expressed their will on June 14 in the second round of the presidential elections. Despite threats and violence, voters turned out in large numbers, signaling their desire to contribute to the future of Afghanistan in a democratic manner.

We commend the efforts that made this election possible. The electoral process must now continue in a transparent manner and, as was the case for the first round of elections, all parties must work with the electoral commissions to publish the final results.

At this key time for the country’s future, France reaffirms its solidarity with the Afghan people and stands alongside them.

Kenya – Attack in Mpeketoni (June 15, 2014)

France condemns the attack carried out in the coastal city of Mpeketoni in Kenya. This cowardly act resulted in the death of several dozen people.

We extend our condolences to the victims’ families and assure the Kenyan people and government of our solidarity.
