Fight against climate change – Submission of the “Deep Decarbonization Pathways Project" to Mr. Laurent Fabius (Paris, July 10, 2014)

Mr. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, will today receive a report from the Working Group on the “Deep Decarbonization Pathways Project."

This report, which was submitted to the UN Secretary-General on July 8, offers concrete proposals for reducing carbon emissions by 2050 for the 15 largest greenhouse gas emitting countries. The report is the initiative of the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations and the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (launched by the UN) and is the result of collaboration between scientists in many countries.

Combating climate change is a priority of Laurent Fabius’s action. Next year, France will host the 2015 Paris Climate Conference which is expected to adopt an international agreement aimed at limiting temperature increases to less than 2°C.

Mr. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, will co-chair the “Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate” on July 11.

This forum is a platform for dialogue and political impetus bringing together the main greenhouse gas emitting countries. It is an important step ahead of the 2015 Paris Climate Conference which should enable us to reach a universal agreement on the fight against climate change.

The meeting on July 11 and 12 will be aimed at facilitating the discussions, notably with respect to contributions to reducing emissions and climate financing.
