Bangladesh – ferry accident (August 4)

We were deeply saddened to learn of the capsizing of a ferry in Bangladesh, resulting in nearly 200 casualties.

In these tragic circumstances, France offers its condolences to the victims’ loved ones and expresses its solidarity with the Bangladeshi people and authorities.

News from the Cultural Network – Lima International Film Festival (August 8 - 16)

Attended by more than 150,000 people annually, and by many Latin American and international filmmakers, the Lima International Film Festival is presenting a first-rate program from August 8 through 16 that is largely devoted to French cinema.

Enjoying support from the Institut français and the French regional cooperation service for Andean nations, this year’s edition of the festival presents a program of digitally restored French classics. The public will have the opportunity to discover, under optimal conditions, Truffaut’s Les 400 Coups and Jules et Jim, Marcel Carné’s Les Enfants du Paradis, Jean-Luc Godard’s Pierrot le fou and Maurice Pialat’s Van Gogh.

French director Bruno Dumont is one of this year’s guests. He will present a selection of his work, including his latest film, Le P’tit Quinquin, which was screened at the most recent Cannes Film Festival. Also on view: a selection from Cannes 2014’s Critics’ Week, with its managing director Charles Tesson.
