Tourism – Meeting of the Tourism Promotion Council devoted to French destinations (Paris, November 12, 2014)

Mr. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, yesterday chaired a session of the Tourism Promotion Council devoted to the consideration of proposals aimed at facilitating access to French destinations.

The rapporteurs notably proposed bolstering efforts to promote around 20 French products and destinations that are all globally recognized “brands.” Digital tools, which are increasingly being used by industry professionals as well as by tourists all over the world, should be mobilized to that effect.

They also recommend making French tourist destinations more accessible. The lack of international air services to and from regional airports was identified as an obstacle to their development.

The Tourism Promotion Council’s next four projects will focus on the impact of digital technology, the hotel industry and business tourism, hospitality and communication and training. A final report on all of this work will be delivered at the end of the first quarter of 2015.

Kenya – Meeting between Mr. Laurent Fabius and his counterpart (Paris, November 13, 2014)

Mr. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, will today receive Ms. Amina Mohamed, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Kenya.

This meeting will provide an opportunity for the two ministers to take stock of prospects for strengthening bilateral relations. They will discuss global issues and the fight against climate disruption in the run-up to the 2015 Paris Climate Conference. They will also discuss key regional issues, including the fight against terrorism in Africa and the situation in South Sudan and Somalia, where Kenya is playing a major role within the African Union Mission in Somalia.

Guinea – Ebola – Visit by Ms. Annick Girardin, Minister of State for Development and Francophony (November 13 to 15, 2014)

Two months after her first visit to Guinea, Ms. Annick Girardin, Minister of State for Development and Francophony, will inaugurate the Ebola treatment center in Macenta (Guinea’s Forest Region) on November 14.

France provided €11 million in funding for this center, which was established at Guinea’s request in the country’s most affected area and will be managed by the French Red Cross.

Ms. Annick Girardin will be accompanied in Conakry by Christos Stylianides, European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and EU Ebola Coordinator, and Vytenis Andriukaitis, European Commissioner for Health.

They will meet with Mr. Alpha Condé, President of Guinea, the ministers of foreign affairs, health and the budget, as well as the main actors on the ground involved in the response to the Ebola epidemic.

Ukraine

Kiev is preparing for combat; the UN fears all-out war. Are you also concerned about a possible armed conflict or do you believe this is just posturing?

France is concerned by reports of military movements in eastern Ukraine.

We call for the implementation of the Minsk agreements. Resolving the crisis is dependent on compliance with the ceasefire, the effective control of Ukraine’s eastern border and the political discussions aimed at finding a lasting solution.
