Afghanistan – Attack against the Institut français in Kabul.

An attack took place today, Thursday, December 11, against the Institut français in Kabul. I utterly condemn this terrorist act which killed several people and injured several others. There were no French casualties.

I extend my condolences to the victim’s families and friends.

The Embassy of France is mobilized alongside the Afghan authorities in order to assist the injured. A crisis unit has been set up in Kabul and in Paris.

Full light must be shed on this barbaric act; those responsible must be identified and brought to justice.

Israel/ Palestinian Territories – Death of Ziad Abu Ein (December 10, 2014)

I would like to remind you of the statement I made yesterday evening regarding the death of Ziad Abu Ein:

France condemns the violence that led to the death of Ziad Abu Ein, a Palestinian official and former Deputy Minister for Prisoner Affairs, during a peaceful demonstration on the outskirts of the Palestinian village of Turmus Aya.

We extend our condolences to Ziad Abu Ein’s family and share the grief of the Palestinian people.

We call on the Israeli authorities to shed full light on the circumstances behind this tragedy.

In the current context of heightened tensions in the West Bank and in Jerusalem, France calls on all parties to take measures to ease tensions and to demonstrate a sense of responsibility.
