Indonesia – Statement by Laurent Fabius on the Air Asia accident (Dec. 30)
The Indonesian authorities announced that they have found debris from the Air Asia plane that disappeared on Sunday, Dec. 28. I was deeply saddened to learn of this. On behalf of our country, I offer my condolences to the Indonesian government and people and to all the families of the victims. I extend my deep sympathy to the family of French co-pilot Rémy Plesel, who disappeared in this disaster.
I spoke yesterday with my Indonesian counterpart, Ms. Retno Marsudi. We discussed the assistance France could provide Indonesia with respect to research and investigation. Two experts from the Bureau of Investigation and Analyses for Civil Aviation Security (BEA) arrived in Jakarta yesterday to assist the Indonesian authorities.
