Norway - Meeting between Mr. Harlem Désir and his counterpart (Paris, May 20, 2015)

Mr. Harlem Désir, Minister of State for European Affairs, met this morning with Mr. Vidar Helgesen, Norwegian Minister for the European Economic Area and EU Affairs.

They discussed the main bilateral and European issues, especially the economic situation in Europe, migration, the Ukrainian crisis and issues relating to the Arctic region.

They also took stock of the fight against climate disruption and preparations for the 2015 Paris Climate Conference. Mr. Laurent Fabius, COP21 President, visited the Svalbard archipelago with his Norwegian counterpart in July 2014 to take stock of the challenges posed by climate disruption in the Arctic and our bilateral cooperation in this field.



Development - Education - Ms. Annick Girardin's visit to South Korea (May 21 to 22, 2015)

Ms. Annick Girardin, Minister of State for Development and Francophonie, will be in South Korea from May 21 to 22 for the World Education Forum, due to take place in Incheon.

This forum, which is being co-hosted by UNESCO, will bring together 1,500 participants from 150 countries in order to develop, within the framework of the post-2015 Development Agenda, an ambitious strategy entitled "Education 2030." France's development assistance strategy for education and training for the next five years is currently in the process of being defined.

On this occasion, Ms. Annick Girardin will meet with Mr. Young-Mok Kim, President of the Korea International Cooperation Agency, Ms. Alice Albright, CEO of the Global Partnership for Education, as well as the education ministers of Cambodia, Côte d'Ivoire, Haiti and Senegal, in the presence of Ms. Michaëlle Jean, Secretary-General of the International Organization of La Francophonie.

Ms. Girardin will also visit the headquarters of the Green Climate Fund in Seoul.



Afghanistan - Attack against the Ministry of Justice (May 19, 2015)

France condemns the attack perpetrated today against the Afghan Ministry of Justice. We extend our condolences to the victims' families.

The attacks against the Afghan justice system and its representatives reaffirm, more than ever, the need to resolutely continue to promote the rule of law in Afghanistan.

France assures the Afghan authorities and people of its solidarity in the fight against terrorism.



Cultural network update - China - 10th anniversary of the "Croisements" [cultural exchanges] festival (April 10 to July 10, 2015)

The "Croisements" [cultural exchanges] festival, which replaced the Années croisées France-Chine 2003-2005 [France-China Cultural Exchange Program], is celebrating its 10th anniversary. This multi-disciplinary event, which has attracted more than 8 million visitors all over China since its inception, is now the largest French cultural festival abroad and the most important foreign cultural festival in China.

The festival is being sponsored by 10 personalities from the Chinese cultural scene this year and will feature, with the support of the Embassy of France in China and the Institut fran├žais, more than 400 events in almost 30 cities. Ten artistic disciplines will be showcased: visual arts, architecture and design; new media; classical and contemporary music; jazz and modern music; dance; theater; new circus and street arts; cinema; literature; young audiences.

Several flagship events are scheduled to take place during the festival: an exhibition entitled "Lumière!" [Light!] with around 20 artists from the contemporary arts scene , including Daniel Buren, Laurent Pernot and Zhang Ding, aimed at celebrating 2015, UNESCO's International Year of Light; performances in Beijing of Molière's "Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme," directed by Denis Podalydès with costumes by Christian Lacroix; and an exhibition on Le Corbusier in Shenzen. The festival will, for the first time, also showcase culinary arts, with several events planned.
