Gambia - Expulsion of the chargée d'affaires of the EU Delegation (June 5, 2015)

France condemns the expulsion of the chargée d'affaires ad interim of the EU Delegation to Gambia, Agnès Guillaud, without any official grounds and with only 72 hours’ notice. We reiterate that the EU is Gambia’s main partner, notably with respect to development assistance and emergency aid. France calls on the Gambian authorities to reconsider their decision as swiftly as possible.

Saudi Arabia

What is your reaction to the upholding of Raif Badawi’s sentence of a thousand lashes? France was concerned to learn that Raif Badawi’s sentence was upheld. We call for continuing the suspension of this punishment and urge the Saudi authorities to make a gesture of clemency, notably on the occasion of Ramadan. France reiterates its commitment to the fundamental freedoms of opinion and expression.
