Lebanon - Meeting between Laurent Fabius and Lebanon’s interior minister (July 23, 2015)

Laurent Fabius received Lebanese Minister of Interior and Municipalities Nouhad Machnouk this morning. Discussions mainly focused on the regional situation and the current political crisis in Lebanon.

The minister reaffirmed France’s unwavering support for Lebanon’s independence, unity and sovereignty and the proper functioning of its institutions. He voiced France’s concern at the current institutional deadlock.

The two ministers also discussed the security situation in Lebanon and the need to strengthen its institutions. They expressed their satisfaction at the ongoing strengthening of the Lebanese army and security forces in the face of the threats to the country’s security and cohesion and highlighted the very active cooperation between France and the Lebanese institutions responsible for security.



Climate - Meeting of the COP21 Steering Committee (July 23)

Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, COP21 President, will chair a meeting of the 2015 Paris Climate Conference Steering Committee this afternoon. Parliamentarians and civil society representatives will take part in the meeting.

Following the informal ministerial consultations in Paris on July 20 and 21, this meeting will provide an opportunity to review 4 key issues: the status of negotiations on the future agreement, the funding that can be mobilized to combat climate disruption, the agenda of solutions and the organization of COP21.

The next meeting of the Steering Committee will take place on Wednesday, August 26.
