China - Explosion in Tianjin – Message from Laurent Fabius

Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, who is an honorary professor at Tianjin University, sent the following message to the mayor of that city:

"Dear Mr. Mayor,

Following the disaster that so severely struck your friendly city and its people, I want to express our deep sadness and solidarity.

I assure you of my full support in this tragic ordeal and ask you to kindly convey the French people's fraternal solidarity to the victims' families and loved ones."

Africa - Fight against poliomyelitis

France is pleased to note the absence of polio cases on the African continent during the past year. This polio-free year represents an important step toward eradicating the disease on the global level.

The international community must remain mobilized. We applaud the work of the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children's Fund, as well as that of the Vaccine Alliance (GAVI).

France is committed to improving health worldwide, and contributes more than €700 million per year to that cause. With respect to vaccination, it is the fifth-largest contributor to GAVI.
