Palestinian Territories – Meeting between Laurent Fabius and his counterpart (Paris, August 18, 2015)

Laurent Fabius received his Palestinian counterpart, Riad al-Malki, today.

The discussions provided an opportunity to review the situation on the ground, which is deteriorating on a daily basis in the absence of any political perspective. Laurent Fabius reaffirmed France's mobilization in support of peace in the Middle East, notably confirmed by our proposal to establish an international support group.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to prepare for the first French-Palestinian intergovernmental seminar, the first session of which will be aimed at strengthening our relations in the political, economic and cultural spheres.

United Nations – Security Council - Syria (August 17, 2015)

France welcomes the adoption yesterday in New York of a UN Security Council Presidential Statement in support of a political transition process in Syria under the auspices of Staffan de Mistura, Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General.

The adoption of this text signals, for the first time in two years, the consensus of the Security Council and its five permanent members on the need to establish a transitional government with full executive powers, in accordance with the principles of the Geneva Communiqué. It also provided an opportunity to confirm our joint support for Staffan de Mistura's efforts.

The bombing of the market in Douma on the eve of the adoption of this statement again demonstrated the urgent need for a political solution. France will support Staffan de Mistura's efforts to implement this Security Council statement.

Indonesia – Commercial plane crash in West Papua (August 16, 2015)

France would like to extend its condolences to the Indonesian government and to the families of the 54 people killed in the plane crash that took place the day before yesterday in West Papua.
