Harlem Désir, Minister of State for European Affairs, will take part in the General Affairs Council in Brussels today.

Following the attacks on November 13, Harlem Désir will call for renewed impetus to be given to the efforts to strengthen the security of European citizens, notably through the swift adoption of the PNR system and the strengthening of external border controls, the fight against terrorist financing and the illicit trafficking of firearms as well as the strengthening of the European Criminal Records System.

These priorities will be the focus of preparations for the European Council from December 17 to 18 and the Commission's work program which will be discussed today in Brussels.

Burundi – Violence in Bujumbura (November 17, 2015)

France condemns the violence that has left at least seven people dead since November 15 in Bujumbura. The perpetrators must be brought to justice.

France welcomes the decisions taken by the African Union's Peace and Security Council on November 13, calling for dialogue outside of the country and requesting the African Union Commission to provide it with a list of individuals to be targeted by sanctions.

We reaffirm our support for the mediation efforts of the East African Community.
