Portugal – Visit by Harlem Désir (December 7, 2015)

Harlem Désir, Minister of State for European Affairs, will travel to Lisbon today to meet with the members of the new Portuguese government.

He will meet with Prime Minister Antonio Costa, Foreign Minister Augusto Ernesto Santos Silva, and with his counterpart, Margarida Marques.

These meetings will provide an opportunity to take stock of our bilateral relations and the major current European issues (migration, fight against terrorism, Economic and Monetary Union, energy issues and the European Neighborhood Policy).

Chad – Attacks (December 5, 2015)

France condemns the attacks carried out on December 5 on the island of Koulfoua in the Lake Chad region.

We extend our condolences to the victims’ families. France stands in solidarity with Chad, which is facing indiscriminate and barbaric terrorism.

The international community must do more to help the countries in the region overcome terrorism.

Comoros / Elections – France’s support for international action

France associates itself with the communiqué on the upcoming elections in Comoros published on December 7 by the African Union, the UN, the International Organization of La Francophonie and the EU.

This communiqué reaffirms the need to ensure respect for the Comorian Constitution, notably with regard to the principle of the rotating presidency of the Union of the Comoros.

France pays tribute to the recent mission to Comoros carried out by former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete, at the request of Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Chairperson of the African Union Commission.
