European Union – Meeting between Mr. Laurent Fabius and Mr. Miguel Arias Cañete, European Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy (Paris, March 26, 2015)

Mr. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, will today receive Mr. Miguel Arias Cañete, European Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy. This meeting will provide an opportunity to prepare for the 2015 Paris Climate Conference, which should lead to a universal and binding international agreement that will make it possible to limit global warming to less than 2 degrees.

The EU submitted its contribution to COP21 on March 6: it pledged to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by at least 40% compared to 1990 levels by 2030. On March 19 and 20, the European Council underscored the need for strong mobilization to ensure that the 2015 Paris Climate Conference achieves an ambitious outcome.

The EU must now step up its diplomatic efforts to encourage other states to submit their own contributions and to work toward concrete solutions for the various components of the Paris agreement, notably with respect to the challenges related to climate adaptation and financing.

Yemen – Situation (March 26, 2015)

Military operations were carried out last night by several countries in the region in response to the request by the legitimate authorities of Yemen. France reaffirms its support for Yemen’s government and for President Hadi. It strongly condemns the destabilizing actions by the Houthi rebels and calls on their supporters to immediately disassociate themselves from the rebels and to return to the political process.

In the face of this troubling situation, France stands alongside its partners in the region in their efforts to restore Yemen’s stability and unity.
