United Nations – Special Session of the Human Rights Council on Boko Haram (April 1, 2015)

France welcomes the unanimous adoption in Geneva on April 1 of a resolution by the UN Human Rights Council condemning the heinous acts perpetrated by the terrorist group Boko Haram.

The Council calls on the international community to support the states affected by Boko Haram, underscores the need to respect human rights in the fight against terrorism and requests the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to prepare a report on the violations committed by Boko Haram in order to contribute to the fight against impunity.

Many civilians, especially women and children, have been massacred, kidnapped or forcibly recruited by Boko Haram. The perpetrators must be brought to justice.

France stands alongside Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin states involved in the fight against terrorism.

 


Russia – Sinking of a fishing trawler in the Sea of Okhotsk (April 2, 2015)

We were extremely shocked to learn of the sinking of the fishing trawler Dalny Vostok in the Sea of Okhotsk, which claimed the lives of more than 50 people.

In these tragic circumstances, France extends its condolences to the victims’ families and expresses its solidarity with the Russian authorities and people.

 


Egypt – Attack in the Sinai (April 2, 2015)

France condemns the attack which, according to provisional reports, claimed the lives of 15 soldiers and 2 civilians in the Sinai today.

We extend our condolences to the victims’ families and express our sympathy to the injured.

France reaffirms its solidarity with the Egyptian people and government and stands alongside them in the fight against terrorism.

 


Kenya – Attack on Garissa University campus (April 2, 2015)

France condemns this morning’s deadly attack against Garissa University campus in northeastern Kenya.

We extend our condolences to the victims’ families.

France stands alongside the Kenyan authorities and people in the fight against terrorism.

 


Chile – Adverse weather conditions (April 2, 2015)

France stands alongside Chile, which has been affected by severe flooding and landslides.

We extend our condolences to the victims’ families, and assure the Chilean authorities and people of our solidarity.

Within the framework of its partnership with Airbus Helicopters, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development crisis and support center is mobilizing helicopters to contribute to the relief efforts. The first airlifts will start today.

Our embassy is in continuous contact with the Chilean authorities in order to assess the situation and needs.
