Turkey / Attack in Istanbul – Statement by Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development (January 12, 2016)

I was deeply shocked to learn of this morning’s attack in Istanbul, in the tourist area of Sultanahmet, which killed at least 10 people and injured many others.

I utterly condemn this heinous attack and express France’s wholehearted solidarity to the Turkish people and the authorities of that country, which has once again been hit hard.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families and close friends.

At my request, crisis units were immediately set up in Paris and Istanbul. A telephone hotline has been set up in Paris: 01.43.17.56.46.

Our Consulate General in Istanbul and the Quai d’Orsay’s crisis and support center are mobilized.

Our citizens present in Turkey were immediately advised to be vigilant.

Iraq – Attacks (January 11, 2016)

France condemns the deadly attacks carried out by Daesh in Baghdad and in Muqdadiya, in the province of Diyala, which left dozens of people dead and injured.

We extend our condolences to the victims’ families and to the Iraqi people.

France stands alongside Iraq in the fight against terrorism.
