Syria / United Nations – Meeting of the P5 on the implementation of resolution 2254 (Geneva - January 13, 2016)

France will today participate, at the senior official level, in a meeting of the five permanent members of the Security Council, organized by Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Syria Staffan de Mistura.

The meeting will notably focus on the implementation of resolution 2254, the resumption of direct talks between the regime and the Syrian opposition and the humanitarian measures needed to create an environment conducive to these negotiations.

As Laurent Fabius indicated on January 11, France calls for the immediate and effective lifting of the sieges in Syria, for unrestricted humanitarian access and for an end to the attacks against civilians.



Cameroon – Attack against a mosque (January 13, 2016)

France condemns the attack carried out on January 13 against a mosque in Kouyape, in northern Cameroon, which left 13 people dead.

We extend our condolences to the victims’ families.

In the face of this barbaric act, France stands alongside Cameroon and assures the countries of the Lake Chad basin of its solidarity in the fight against terrorism.



Pakistan – Attack against a vaccination center (January 13, 2016)

France condemns the attack that left many people dead on January 13 outside a vaccination center in Quetta during an anti-polio campaign.

We extend our condolences to the victims’ families

Iraq – Murder of two Iraqi journalists (January 12, 2016)

France condemns the murder of Iraqi journalists Saif Talal and Hassan al-Anbaki on January 12 in Diyala Province in Iraq. It extends its condolences to their families and colleagues.

We urge the Iraqi authorities to shed full light on these murders and to bring the perpetrators to justice.

France reaffirms its attachment to the freedom of expression, the freedom of the press and the protection of journalists, who must be able to carry out their work in complete safety all over the world.
