European Union / Alpine cooperation – Harlem Désir's visit to Slovenia (January 25, 2016)

Harlem Désir, Minister of State for European Affairs, will participate in the conference to launch the EU Strategy for the Alpine Region, due to take place today in Slovenia.

France has been actively involved in developing this strategy, which brings the countries and regions in the Alpine Space together. Harlem Désir will reaffirm our determination to work with all our partners to promote growth, employment, the development of interconnections and environmental protection within this framework.

During this visit, Harlem Désir will meet with Karl Erjavec, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia. They will work on strengthening our bilateral relations and on developing cooperation in the Western Balkans, notably in the run-up to the conference scheduled to take place in Paris in summer 2016. They will take stock of current European issues, including the refugee crisis and the fight against terrorism.

Tourism / Education – Launch of the "Immersion France" app by Matthias Fekl (January 25, 2016)

Matthias Fekl, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, the Promotion of Tourism and French Nationals Abroad, will present the "Immersion France" app during its launch at the Quai d'Orsay today.

This free app, which was designed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development and its agency Campus France, is aimed at promoting residential language courses in France for individual visitors, families and school groups. It therefore combines language-training opportunities with travel experiences in order to meet increased demand and improve the welcome extended to tourists.

Haiti – Electoral process

France expresses its concern following the deferral, for security reasons, of the second round of presidential and legislative elections. It condemns the violence of the last few days, and is committed to the rapid conclusion of the electoral process begun in August 2015.

We call on the parties to reach compromises that make it possible to conclude this last step in the electoral process in a peaceful climate that respects the voters' choices.

Given the severity of the economic, social and humanitarian challenges facing Haiti, working in a united fashion to bring about recovery is more necessary than ever. As a partner and friend of Haiti, France renews its commitment to support it on this path.

Burkina Faso – Arrival in France of victims' bodies (Paris - January 25, 2016)

The bodies of three employees of the company Scalès, who were killed in the terrorist attack in Ouagadougou on January 15, were returned to France this morning with their families' consent.

On this occasion, we reiterate our deep solidarity with the loved ones of the victims of this tragedy.

Matthias Fekl, minister of state for foreign trade, the promotion of tourism and French nationals abroad, represented the government at the commemorative ceremony held this morning.
