European Union – Presentation of the Louise Weiss Prize for European Journalism by Harlem Désir (Paris - January 26, 2016)

Harlem Désir, Minister of State for European Affairs, will present the Louise Weiss Prize for European Journalism to seven journalists at the Quai d'Orsay this evening at 7:30pm.

This year will mark the 10th anniversary of the Louise Weiss Prize. It was created by the French section of the Association of European Journalists with the active support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development and is aimed at encouraging journalists to provide more in-depth coverage of European issues. It is awarded in recognition of Louise Weiss (1893-1983), a committed journalist and European.

This year's winners are as follows:

  • News report category: Elisa Perrigueur and Pierre Marsaut, for their report "A fence dividing the Bulgarian countryside to combat migrants" (Le Monde - May 11, 2015); tied for first place: Marianne Meunier and Emanuele Cremaschi, for their report "On the road with the refugees" (La Croix - October 17 and 18, 2015);
  • Analysis category: Frédéric Choffat and Luis Lema, for their investigation "Terminus Brig" (RTS - June 10, 2015);
  • Young journalist category: Laurène Daycard, for her report "As long as it's a boy" (Causette - October, 2015).

Cameroon – Attacks in Bodo (January 25, 2016)

France condemns the attacks carried out on January 25 against the market in Bodo, in northern Cameroon, which left around thirty people dead.

We extend our condolences to the victims' families.

France assures Cameroon and the countries in the Lake Chad region of its solidarity in the fight against terrorism.

Syria

Despite yesterday's announcement by Staffan de Mistura, does Paris believe that the present climate is conducive to holding negotiations in Geneva on Syria, starting on Friday?

Laurent Fabius is in contact with our key partners with respect to this issue.

Moscow believes that without the Kurdish P.Y.D. group, the negotiations cannot be successful. What's your position?

The opposition group that resulted from the conference in Riyadh brings together, for the first time, a broad spectrum of nonjihadist political and military leaders who have committed to work together on a joint plan to build a united, free and democratic Syria that will ensure respect for everyone.

It is therefore up to this group to become the regime's interlocutor in the negotiations.
