Iraq – Attacks in Baghdad (February 28, 2016)

France condemns the deadly attacks perpetrated by Daesh in Baghdad on February 28, which left dozens of people dead and injured.

We express our solidarity with the Iraqi people and extend our condolences to the victims' families.

France is actively involved in the efforts of the international coalition against Daesh within the framework of Operation Chammal and supports Iraq in the fight against terrorism.



Somalia – Attacks in Mogadishu and Baidoa (February 26 & 28, 2016)

France condemns the two attacks for which the Shabab terrorist group has claimed responsibility and which left a total of almost 40 people dead on February 26 in Mogadishu and on February 28 in Baidoa.

We extend our condolences to the victims' families as well as to the Somali government. The perpetrators of these heinous acts must be brought to justice.

France, together with the European Union, supports the action of the Somali authorities and the United Nations mission in Somalia in their efforts to restore security and stability in the country.



Russia – Explosions in the Severny mine (February 28, 2016)

We were shocked to learn that a series of explosions in the Severny mine, in northern Russia, has left a total of 36 people dead, including 6 rescue workers.

At this painful time, France expresses its condolences to the victims' families, as well as to the Russian authorities and people.



Situation of Christophe Naudin

The French authorities are closely monitoring the situation of Christophe Naudin and are continuing to provide him with consular protection.

Our consul general in Cairo visited him today.

From Geneva, where he is taking part in a session of the UN Human Rights Council, the minister of foreign affairs and international development stated that his support committee would be received in Paris in the very near future.
