European Union – Meeting between Jean-Marc Ayrault, and Christos Stylianides (Paris - April 27, 2016)

Jean-Marc Ayrault, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, will receive Christos Stylianides, European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management this evening.

This meeting will provide an opportunity to prepare for the World Humanitarian Summit, scheduled to take place from May 23 to 24 in Istanbul. It will also provide an opportunity to discuss the various aspects of refugee assistance and the humanitarian crises, notably in Africa and the Middle East.

Christos Stylianides will visit, together with André Vallini, Minister of State for Development and Francophonie, the ministry’s crisis and support center on April 28. They will then meet with several NGOs operating in the field of emergency humanitarian assistance.



Côte d'Ivoire ⁄ Economic diplomacy – Visit by Matthias Fekl (Abidjan - April 27-28, 2016)

Matthias Fekl, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, the Promotion of Tourism and French Nationals Abroad, will visit Côte d'Ivoire today.

He will be received by President Alassane Ouattara and will take part in several working meetings with the prime minister and members of Côte d'Ivoire’s government. An agreement on cooperation in the aviation sector between France and Côte d'Ivoire, a health cooperation agreement and a program to strengthen the agricultural sector will be signed on this occasion.

On April 28, Matthias Fekl, together with 200 companies, will take part in the opening session of the West Africa-Central Africa Business Forum organized by Business France and the National Committee of Foreign Trade Advisors of France, which will be attended by Pierre Gattaz, President of MEDEF. He will also chair a meeting with all of our ambassadors in the region in order to take stock of our economic presence in West and Central Africa.

During this visit, Matthias Fekl will meet with the French community and will present the International Business Volunteers grand prize to the 2016 winners in Côte d'Ivoire.



Syria – Death of five members of the White Helmets (April 25, 2016)

France condemns the attack which notably claimed the lives of five members of the White Helmets, a civil defense group which provides assistance to victims of the bombings, on April 25 in Atareb (Aleppo Province).

We extend our condolences to the victims’ families as well as to the Syrian people.

France pays tribute to the exemplary commitment of the White Helmets, who risk their lives to provide assistance to Syrian people every day.

This latest attack reaffirms the urgent need to uphold the cessation of hostilities and ensure unimpeded humanitarian access to the besieged areas.



Cape Verde – Deadly shooting rampage (April 26, 2016)

France condemns the shooting rampage that took place on April 26 in a communications hub in Monte Tchota in Cape Verde.

We extend our condolences to the victims’ families as well as to their home countries.

We hope that full light will be shed on the circumstances behind this attack and that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.



Cuba – Launch of the Month of French Culture (April 26–May 31, 2016)

One year after President Hollande’s visit, the Month of French Culture was launched yesterday in Havana.

During this festival, the Cuban public will have the opportunity to discover numerous French artists and intellectuals through cultural events in all fields: the first International Design Biennial in Havana, Karl Lagerfeld and Jean Michel Marchetti photography exhibitions, concerts and contemporary dance workshops. The French Film Festival in Havana will also take place from April 29, and will notably be attended by directors Jean Becker and Christophe Barratier.

This event marks a new stage in the strengthening of our bilateral relations following Raúl Castro’s state visit to France in February.
