Somalia – Attack against an AMISOM base (June 9, 2016)

France condemns the attack perpetrated on June 9 by the Shabab terrorist group against an African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) base in the village of Halgan, in the central part of the country, which killed a large number of Ethiopian soldiers.

We express our condolences to the victims' families and the Ethiopian authorities. The perpetrators of this attack must be brought to justice.

We pay tribute to the efforts of AMISOM and the Ethiopian contingent in restoring peace and security in Somalia. Together with our partners, we stand alongside the Somali government and AMISOM in the fight against terrorism.
