Libya – Humanitarian aid

France has decided to step up its humanitarian aid to Libya with a new €450,000 subsidy for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). This subsidy will help strengthen the organization's material assistance and technical support for Libyan hospitals and other medical facilities.

Furthermore, in response to the needs expressed by the Libyan authorities, and in cooperation with them and the World Health Organization, France and Germany have decided to ship additional medicine to that country. This follows a shipment to Tripoli during the joint visit by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development Jean-Marc Ayrault and German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter last April, as well as a previous French donation.

At a time when forces loyal to the government are engaged in a brave and ferocious battle against Daesh and terrorism in Libya, particularly in Sirte, France has also decided to demonstrate its support by funding a surgical team in Tunisia to treat wounded fighters.

Syria – Bombing of a hospital (August 6, 2016)

France strongly condemns the bombing of a hospital in Millis, in northwestern Syria, that left 10 people dead, including children.

Such acts are a gross violation of resolution 2286 whereby last May the UN Security Council condemned attacks against the sick, medical personnel and humanitarian personnel in armed conflicts. The regime and its supporters must end these despicable attacks on civilians.

We call for a restoration of the cessation of hostilities, for civilian access to humanitarian aid, and for the resumption of talks on a political transition.

Yemen – Suspension of inter-Yemeni peace talks (August 6, 2016)

France takes note of the UN's notice of the suspension of the inter-Yemeni peace negotiations in Kuwait.

It calls on the parties to reaffirm their commitment to seeking a lasting and inclusive political solution and to swiftly resume their negotiations to that end.

France also asks the parties to respect the now-weakened ceasefire, as it alone can improve the humanitarian situation and ease the suffering of the Yemeni people

We reiterate our support for the mediation effort led by the UN secretary-general's special envoy, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed.

Iran – Execution of Shahram Amiri (August 7, 2016)

France condemns the execution of Shahram Amiri, which the Iranian authorities announced on August 7.

We repeat our unwavering opposition to the death penalty everywhere and in all circumstances.

Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia – Floods (August 7, 2016)

We were deeply saddened to learn of the deaths of some 20 people in floods in the Skopje area.

France offers its condolences to the victims' families and loved ones.

At this painful time, we assure the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia of our solidarity.

Pakistan – Attack on a hospital in Quetta (August 8, 2016)

France condemns this morning's cowardly attack on a hospital in Quetta, in the province of Baluchistan, Pakistan, that left at least 40 dead.

We offer our condolences to the victims' families and loved ones.

France assures Pakistan of its solidarity in the fight against terrorism.

Mexico – Tropical Storm Earl (August 8, 2016)

In the face of the death and devastation left by Tropical Storm Earl, France expresses its absolute solidarity with the people of Mexico who, like some of their neighbors, are going through a particularly difficult time.

We offer our condolences to the victims' families and loved ones.
